My fourth book in the Tenner ARC Tour: The Cinderella Society by Kay Cassidy. When the Prom Queen becomes your fairy godmother, be careful what you wish for.
Sixteen year old outsider, Jess Parker, gets the chance of a lifetime: an invitation to join a secret society of popular girls dedicated to defeating the mean girls of the world. The Cinderella Society guides all new recruits through its top secret ultimate life makeover. It’s all part of preparing them to face down the Wickeds and win.
Prom queens and makeovers and mean girls, oh my! Again, a book that's a little out of the range of my usual reading, but one I'm so glad I picked up. What makes this one special?
-The main character, Jess Parker, is GREAT! She's witty, sarcastic, likeable and a combination of strong and insecure that makes her very, very real. Her internal dialogue (and some of the stuff she says out loud, too) are my very favorite parts of the book.
-The message. Embrace your destiny. Change your world. Be exceptional. Its motivating, inspiring, and so right-on, delivered in an accessible, non-preachy way. You want to be like these girls when you finish reading.
And its a motto Kay Cassidy herself is 150% behind. If you haven't been to her website and blogs, you're missing out. She does an exceptional job with blogger/bookseller/librarian/author spotlights, sneak peeks into work spaces, a Teen Author Challenge with great tips on writing (some of which I personally have filed away), lots of giveaways. Oh, and she's the founder of the Great Scavenger Hunt, a national program to help libraries engage teens in reading. She sounds pretty amazing, no?
Anyway, TCS is well worth a read (there's a great romance in it, too!). Its due out April 13, 2010 and a sequel is in the works...
