Book Briefs: Amy Brecount White

Book Briefs: an interview series where authors talk about...what else?  Books! Amy Brecount White's debut novel, Forget-Her-Nots, will be published by Greenwillow/HarperCollins on March 2.

What book are you reading right now?  An ARC of Everlasting by Tenner Angie Frazier.  Yay, Angie!

Your favorite children’s book:  Miss Rumphius by Barbara Cooney.  It's a flower thing.

Your favorite non-fiction book:  Cactus Hotel by Brenda Z. Guyiberson.  My kids loved reading it when we used to visit Grandma in Arizona.

Your favorite classic (read: book they made you read in school) book: A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens.  It still makes me bawl.  Sydney Carton is the prototype of the lovable bad boy.

The last book that made you laugh: When You Reach Me by Rebecca Stead.  It made me cry, too.

The last book that made you cry:  See above.

The last book you recommended to a friend: Dirty Little Secrets by Tenner C.J. Omololu.  Gripping!

A novel you’ve re-read (and re-read): All of Jane Austen's.  My fave is Persuasion.

One sentence that gives the gist of your book best:

Fourteen-year-old Laurel discovers she is part of a secret society dedicated to the magical language of flowers, in this debut novel blooming with romance, mystery, and intrigue.

Avoiding spoilers, a 1-2 sentence passage from your book that you really like:

Like a scarf unwrapping from her neck, the warmth, the peace slowly dissipated, leaving Laurel cold and exposed.  She shivered and stared at the closed book in her lap.
