Book Briefs: Kimberly Derting

Book Briefs: an interview series where authors talk about...what else?  Books!body-finder-200 Kimberly Derting's debut YA novel, The Body Finder, will be published by Harper Collins on March 16 (but I saw it in the stores already this week!)

What book are you reading right now?  Giving Up the Ghost by Megan Crewe and Hush, Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick

Your favorite children’s book:  I’ll Love You Forever (We are talking picture books, aren’t we???)  This book always makes me cry.  Always.

Your favorite non-fiction book: The Time-Life History of WWII (I’m fascinated and horrified by that period in history)

Your favorite classic (read: book they made you read in school) book: To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee.

The last book that made you laugh: The Naughty List by Suzanne Young (if you need a good laugh, this is a great choice).

The last book that made you cry: Night by Elie Wiesel (I told you...I really like WWII stories)

The last book you recommended to a friend: Prada & Prejudice by Mandy Hubbard.  I gave it to two of my neices for their birthdays!

A novel you’ve re-read (and re-read): To Kill a Mockingbird.  I read it every few years.  What can I say, I loved it!

One sentence that gives the gist of your book best: A serial killer on the loose, a girl with a morbid ability, and the boy who would never let anything happen to her.

Avoiding spoilers, a 1-2 sentence passage from your book that you really like:

Violet strained to see into the lake below. Multihued light seemed to be radiating up from beneath the water, centered among the reeds, and then diffusing outward as it reached the surface. Violet had never seen anything like it, and she knew that the spectrum of light was defying its very nature by behaving in that way.

It could be only one thing.

There was something dead down there.
