These have been posted on Amazon and Goodreads for a while so it’s high time I formally introduced them: . . . . . . . . . . . They’re quite a departure from The Mark’s original cover design and, while I thought that one was great, I really like the simplicity and mood of these and [...]

Yesterday’s post was about the typical pre-publication to-dos and milestones. Today’s is about the atypical stuff, all of which I’ve seen happen over this past year… Your editor gets laid off, your book dies. Even though you had a deal. Your editor gets laid off, you get a new one. Who you totally click with. [...]

Congratulations! That’s a big deal. You’ve probably worked for years on manuscripts, written and revised countless query letters, read rejection after disheartening rejection and finally, you’re there. If this is your debut novel and you’re anything like me, you have no idea what comes next. Or you have some ideas, most of which will turn out to be [...]

The Online Launch Party continues! Read the giveaway rules, prize list and enter here. Almost any conversation about The Mark that I’ve had in person or online includes talk about the awesome cover. So pretty, no? Of course, I had absolutely nothing to do with it. Danielle Delaney, who designed not one, but two beautiful covers for The Mark, graciously agreed to answer a [...]

It’s already on Amazon, Goodreads, and The Tenners. Borders, IndieBound and B&N aren’t updated yet… AND B&N has my name wrong But I can’t believe I forgot to post it here: the almost-final new cover for The Mark: The more I look at it, the more and more (and more!) I like it. I loved the old one, but I actually [...]

I just got word yesterday that I lost the cover showdown (three posts back) for the simplest and fairest reason that HarperCollins bought the image first. The error was on the part of the stock photo company who mistakenly sold it twice. So…there will be a new cover for The Mark. The good news is there [...]

Thanks to Lauren adding to her Goodreads to-read list last week, I saw this: A near duplicate of my cover: Both books are YA, due out in January 2010. Lookalike covers are pretty common. A LOT of covers use stock photographs which are generally not [...]

My editor’s given the go-ahead to share: I got my first look at it two weeks ago. There was definitely some anxiety opening the attachment. They say not to judge a book by its cover, but of course everyone does. My editor and I hadn’t talked at all about Bloomsbury’s thoughts on it so I had [...]
